Retirement

After almost 25 years of life in the Navy - Dennis had his retirement ceremony on July 26th. It was a gorgeous day in Groton, Connecticut. The ceremony took place at the Submarine Musuem in front of the USS Nautilus - the Navy's first nuclear submarine. Unfortunately his shipmates found out that day they were deploying early, throw in a major valve malfunction - and the results were a small, stressed out crowd of guys. However, my parents, grandparents, and Uncle Rich made it along with Dennis' Aunt Ethel, cousins Bill, Tom and Tom's family. The ceremony was rich with tradition and very moving. It's hard to believe that come midnight tonight (Sept. 1) Dennis will officially move to the retirement roster. I guess until he gets that new job and starts working again, it really won't sink in that he doesn't have to go to sea anymore, the phone isn't ringing 24/7 with boat issues, and no one is telling him where to go and how long he has to be there. Dennis didn't waste any time getting the retired Navy sticker on his truck! We are enjoying his time off right now.
